Why Should I Hire A Real Estate Photographer?

Jennifer White • September 11, 2019

With today's phone technology, why should I hire a real estate photographer when I can do it myself?

Are you a realtor who wonders why you should hire a professional real estate photographer when you have a newer nicer phone or camera that takes great photos? Have you ever had a homeowner say, "Why should I have a realtor when I can sell my home myself?" Kind of the same concept. Just like a seller is more likely to sell their home faster with less hassle with a realtor, a professional photographer knows how to photograph a home to help it sale, save the realtor time, and it makes the realtor look professional which is appealing to current and future clients.

In today's world, over 90% of home buyers will look at homes online before reaching out to a realtor. In other words, how your listing is presented is very important and should grab attention. In fact, it's probably more important now then ever before. Typically homes with professional photos sell faster that those that don't.

It's been said by Agentology(another blog about this topic), buyers take approximately 20 seconds to look at the exterior front photo so you want to make sure it's going to get their attention so they then look at more photos. They also say real estate photos taken by a professional DSLR gets 61% more views. What if you have a DSLR? Having a DSLR doesn't make you a photographer just like owning a fishing pole doesn't make you a professional fisherman. Professional photographers take photos for a living. They understand the importance of light, angles, and pleasing compositions.

It can take a professional photographer 1 - 2 hours to shoot a home depending on the size, plus the editing time which is another 1-3 hours. That's 2 - 5 hours the realtor could be saving to work on their business. As you know, time is limited and time is money. Would you rather be working on photos, or showing a client a home?

Also, having professional looking listings is also a great way to attract future clients and retain those clients. If a potential client sees your listings looking professional they are more likely to use your services and to refer your services to their friends and family. Don't forget, headshots are just as important to your business. You can check out my blog about headshots here.
