Edit This July 2020 2 Entry - Afternoon Walk

Jennifer White • August 5, 2020

How Jennifer White with Timeless Moments Photography edited the photo for the Edit This Contest in July 2020 version 2 for Fine Art America.

Fine Art America surprised us with a 2nd "Edit This" contest in July 2020. In case you don't know, they provide a photo and ask us to edit it to make it our own piece of art. They do want the original photo to be recognized in some way. They then have a contest and vote for the best design. This design of mine took 2nd place!!!! Only missed 1st place by 1 vote!

The provided was taken along a river walkway in Manchester England. Not sure what river or exact location. For my editing this time, I mixed in 4 different photos and edited the image in both Affinity Photo, Painter Essentials, and Lightroom and also Fotosketcher.

For this portrait / vertical style laid out image, I decided to make it a landscape / horizontal layout. I knew I wanted to add one of my golf course images I took at Rivercut Golf Course in Springfield Missouri, United States. So I removed the walkway and river and worked in part of the golf course photo. It took some time to mix in the trees from the provided photo and my photo. I made it look like some of the tree leaves and branches were closer than others to give it some depth. I also had to take the sky from the golf course photo and edit it into the provided photo so they would match.

Needing a fun subject, I added a photo of a young mallard duck couple that I had captured on the same golf course but was a different scene. This added some cuteness I think. As I looked at it some more, the sidewalk overgrown area wasn't mixing well with the well groomed golf course so I took one of my spring time photos of some flowers and worked them in along the side. After finishing I added some tone mapping and texture to it then did my final editing touches in Lightroom.

I was also wanting to go with a painting type look so I used Fotosketcher to turn it in to a painting and I'm offering both options on my website.

The painterly version photo ended up getting 2nd place in the contest!!! Yay! I was only one vote away from getting first. I love doing these and stay tuned for the next edit this contest!
